Statement: Ron Reid

Ron Reid, Ontario Nature’s former Conservation Director and much-loved environmentalist, passed away on December 15, 2024. Ron was a leader of numerous successful conservation campaigns. Among these, his work was central to the protection of millions of acres of land – the largest-ever expansion of the Ontario parks system. He also was a founder of the Couchiching Conservancy and its first executive director.

“Ron was a conservation champion and a founder of Ontario’s land trust movement. His conservation legacy throughout the province is profound. It’s a sad time for those of us who knew and worked with Ron,” Caroline Schultz.

Ron was kind, compassionate and wise. His ability to bring disparate interests together to find shared paths to protect Ontario’s natural heritage was unparalleled. We mourn his passing and celebrate his illustrious career in nature conservation.
