Can you believe what I saw today??? A snowy owl! Went for an afternoon walk in a marshland area near the lake, a bird paradise usually but currently under snow, and on top of a power pole at the end of a driveway there was a snowy owl. We stood watching it for a very long time, and it kept swiveling its head around, keeping an eye on us and the surroundings. It was amazing. When we walked back it was still there, seeming to have settled in for the day. I’ve never been that close to an owl before.
Wow! That’s wonderful! That sounds like prime Snowy owl habitat and behavior! They love power poles… and thank goodness they like to linger once they’ve found an acceptable spot.
This is amazing. I’ve seen fewer than six owls of any type in my entire life!
It really was an amazing day! Most of them were female (more streaked than the silky white males), but impressive and mind-boggling nonetheless!
