Youth Training and Planting Event at Cawthra Mulock Nature Reserve

Calling youth under 30 in the GTA and Newmarket! Join Ontario Nature’s team to learn about species and habitats found at Cawthra Mulock Nature Reserve for a training and restoration event. Participants will learn nature identification skills through an interpretive hike and hear about Cawthra Mulock Nature Reserve’s regenerating forest and pollinator meadows.
A certificate of completion and volunteer hours are available for this full day event.
Schedule – This is a full day event.
9:30am-10:00am – Registration and welcome
10:00am-12:00pm – Interpretive hike and planting
12:00pm-12:30pm – Lunch (to be provided)
12:30pm-2:00pm – Planting and hike back
2pm-2:30pm – Wrap-up and farewells
Travel to and from Cawthra Mulock
Due to limited parking spots on site, we are offering transportation options from Toronto and Newmarket!
- Stop 1: York Mills TTC Passenger Pick-Up, 5 Old York Mills Rd, North York, ON M2P 1N6, departing at 8:15 AM
- Stop 2: Newmarket High School, 505 Pickering Crescent, Newmarket, ON L3Y 8H1, departing around 9 AM
- Final stop at Cawthra Mulock Nature Reserve, 18462 Bathurst St, Newmarket, ON L3Y 4V9, arrival at 9:30 AM
All buses will drop off at the same location as pick-up after the event.
Please share your details for transportation when registering. Final details of pick-up and drop off will be finalized ahead of the event.
Refreshments: Please bring your own refillable water bottle. Water will be provided by Ontario Nature. A boxed lunch will be provided, but you are welcome to bring nut-free snacks to keep you nourished.
Bathroom: There will be washroom facilities on site.
Clothing: Please wear a hat, closed toed shoes and long pants. A limited set of rubber boots will be available.
Directions: The nature reserve can be accessed by travelling north on Bathurst Street from Green Lane/Millers Side Road. The nature reserve is the second driveway on the left (west) side at 18462 Bathurst Street and is marked by a green and white Ontario Nature sign.

Parking instructions: The parking lot is located across from the white house.
Accessibility: The event will include a round-trip hike (3 kms) carrying equipment between 5 and 10 lbs. The event will include physical planting of shrubs and trees that involves bending and lifting at your own pace. Please let staff know if you have any challenges with lifting heavy objects. All equipment will be provided.
