Ford’s proposed “Special Economic Zones Act, 2025” would allow the government to exempt entire areas – and companies operating in them – from virtually any provincial laws based on, including environmental protections, health standards, and local planning rules.
This law is unprecedented. No other legislation in Ontario or Canada gives a minister such sweeping power to override all provincial laws within handpicked zones. This will have a devastating impact on Ontario wildlife.
