Shaping Engaged, Resilient and Livable Communities – Webinar

October 4 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The Nith Valley EcoBoosters (NVEB) are hosting a free webinar, featuring four knowledgeable speakers, on Tuesday, October 4th, 2022 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.  Find out why people should engage in shaping resilient and livable communities and how to do it.  For details see the attached poster.

Everyone’s voice matters when it comes to influencing the future of their community!!

Why should people engage in shaping resilient and liveable communities? How do they go about it? This webinar will feature four knowledgeable speakers who will answer those questions:

  • Kevin Eby, former member of the Ontario Greenbelt Council and former Director of Community Planning for the Region of Waterloo, will address the topic of liveable communities, describing what that means and inspiring participants to consider what they want their community to look like.
  • In order for residents to influence decision-making in their communities, they need to understand the municipal planning process plus when and how to get engaged in that process. With his experience as Director of Planning for the Township of Wellesley, Tim Van Hinte will be able to provide clarity on that subject.
  • As the Managing Director of Engagement and Operations for Environmental Defence Canada, Suzanne Karajaberlian understands why individual engagement is important and how it can make a difference in the political process. She will help participants to realize that every voice matters.
  • Local resident Kevin Thomason, Director of Smart Growth Waterloo Region and Vice-Chair of the Grand River Environmental Network knows how to create a movement and rally the community and will share his knowledge at the event. In the past several months he has inspired community members to engage with local governments about a Ministerial Zoning Order and the Region of Waterloo Official Plan Update.

We believe that all who attend this webinar will acquire the tools they need to influence the future of their community and will be inspired to use them!!
