Nature Guelph Speaker Series – In the Eye of the Beholder: Beauty in the Natural World

Nature Guelph is pleased to welcome Kyle Horner as our February guest speaker! Please join us at 7:30 pm on Thursday, February 13, 2020, at the University of Guelph Arboretum Centre, 200 Arboretum Road, Guelph.

There is perhaps no concept more subjective in this world than that of beauty. When it comes to nature though, consensus is easier to come by. Beloved are the creatures of feather and fur, while things that slither and crawl seldom find themselves in the spotlight. In this humorous and light-hearted presentation we will re-examine our preconceived notions of beauty, and try to find it in some unlikely places!

About Our Speaker:

Kyle Horner I grew up in Port Hope, Ontario and as long as he can remember, he has been fascinated by nature and wildlife, something his parents encouraged. When Kyle started his studies at the University of Guelph, he was introduced to many birders and spent many weekends travelling across Ontario following rarities. At the same time, he met a dedicated group of individuals who loved reptiles and amphibians and his love affair with them took off. Both pursuits also led him to wildlife photography, which he continues to this day. After graduating from university, Kyle traveled throughout North America as a field technician, working on boreal songbirds in Newfoundland, rattlesnakes in British Columbia, neotropical migrants in Arizona and aerial insectivores in Ontario. While he still loves research, his true passion is environmental education, and he has developed and delivered educational programming for numerous organizations including national parks, conservation authorities, zoos, botanical gardens and non-profits.

Kyle is currently the Education Coordinator at Wild Ontario, and he is a tour guide for Eagle Eye Tours.
