Nature Guelph Speaker Series: Eat, Prey, Love – the Secret Lives of Spiders

Nature Guelph is pleased to welcome John Reaume as our January guest speaker! Please join us at 7:30 pm on Thursday, January 9, 2020, at the University of Guelph Arboretum Centre, 200 Arboretum Road, Guelph.

Spiders are among the most misunderstood animals on our planet. John will provide a review of spider taxonomy, anatomy, webs (and their many uses), mating behavior, and hunting and feeding strategies. He will then review 10 species that are local to Guelph.

John has been an avid nature photographer for over 30 years. Initially specializing in bird photography, his interests have broadened from the macro world (spiders and dragonflies) to astrophotography. His images have graced the covers of many magazines and books, including Ontario’s latest Breeding Bird Atlas, the ROM’s field guides to Birds of Ontario, and Reptiles and Amphibians of Ontario. You can see some of his latest work in the publication “Spiders of the Arboretum, University of Guelph”. John is an active member and former president of Saugeen Nature and is a practicing rural physician in the town of Mount Forest.

Nature Guelph events are open to non-members and everyone is welcome! This event is free, but donations are always appreciated (suggested donation of $5 for non-members). If you enjoy our events and programs, we hope you will consider buying an annual membership.
