Earth Day Grey Bruce 22

Earth Day Grey Bruce 22

Community Climate Action

The Grey Bruce Climate Action Network Earth Day Planning Group is organizing Earth Day 22:

Saturday, April 23, at the Owen Sound Farmers Market, 2:00 pm – 5:00pm

Our goal is to celebrate Earth Day with a community event that energizes us all to take climate change action including mitigation, adaptation, and justice. We acknowledge that we live in the traditional territory of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation and welcome the participation of Indigenous people and groups in the event.

Earth Day 22 will involve everyone in our diverse community in a playful, child-friendly event, including a parade, music, dance, drama and art, and information on green living.  Therefore, we invite people of all ages and identities, as well as organizations and community groups from across our region, to join us.

We want to learn and share by inviting:
  • Kids telling us through art, stories, dance how they see their future
  • Nature groups to show us how to connect and live with nature
  • Builders to present alternative ways to build sustainable houses
  • Municipalities and counties share how they respond to climate change
  • Arts, music, dance, poetry, drama groups to inspire us with alternative ways to tell our stories of hope
  • Investors share information how to build climate friendly portfolios, including divestment from fossil fuels
  • Farmers and local food producers to share their low carbon farming methods
  • Community groups, organizations, and climate action groups to present on connections between climate change, mental health and justice
Based at the Farmer’s Market, this event is designed to include four elements:
  • A display area with tables / booths: Local organizations and community groups involved in environmental activities, local food, climate action, community gardens, arts and other activities / initiatives that promote creative and greener living will provide connections and resources on what each of us can do
  • A children’s parade that includes adults and participating groups: This parade will include costumes, paper mache creations, dance and music. The route will circle around the river from 1st Ave East, crossing the 9th St. Bridge and returning along 1st Ave West alongside the park to cross the 8th St. Bridge and return to the Market area. It is envisioned that this could become a continuous loop that others can join at any time.
  • Interactive stations: Will include face-painting, craft activities, games, dancers, and musicians at the market and along the parade route
  • Earth Day Music: Great local musicians playing at the market throughout the event
