Birding for Atlas-3 in Candidate Protected Areas

November 2 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Eagle Lake, Atlas-3 Birdwatching

Join Kristen Setala, Ontario Nature’s Community Science Intern, as she shares stories about conducting surveys for the third Ontario Breeding Bird Atlas. As part of Ontario Nature’s Protected Places Campaign, Kristen partnered with several groups across the province to survey areas of conservation interest. From the Farabout Peninsula in northwestern Ontario to Wolf Lake in Greater Sudbury, you will hear about the significance of these areas, the groups working to protect them, and the birds that breed there.

Kristen is Ontario Nature’s Community Science Assistant, and a life-long bird lover. She grew up in Thunder Bay canoeing, hiking and camping – all of which she enjoyed this field season while conducting breeding bird surveys.

Kristen will be joined by Franco Mariotti, a Biologist and Naturalist. He has spent most of his life as a Science Communicator at Science North in Sudbury and while also involved with community environmental groups primarily focused on restoring the natural world.
