A beginner’s tutorial on calculating carbon for conservation

September 14 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

The storage and sequestration of carbon in forests, wetlands and grasslands are becoming of increasing interest as the world begins to focus on nature-based climate solutions to help avoid climate disasters. However, calculating how much carbon is stored in an ecosystem can be complex. Join us for a technical, hands-on workshop to learn how to run your own carbon storage assessment using InVEST (Integrated Valuation of Ecosystem Services and Tradeoffs).

InVEST is a suite of models used to map ecosystem goods and services. In this workshop, we will show you how to use InVEST to calculate and map carbon storage in an area of conservation interest.

At this beginner tutorial, Ontario Nature’s Graeme Smith will teach you how to:
– Download InVEST software onto your computer
– Input data into InVEST
– Run a carbon storage assessment
– Interpret the results

You will also receive a step-by-step guide on how to run InVEST for your own future assessments.
