Benefits of Group Membership

Environmental advocacy

Our staff can offer suggestions for helpful contacts and appropriate actions. Detailed information is available for both provincial and federal legislation dealing with issues such as land use policy, wetlands, parks and woodlot management. Information booklets are available to assist citizens and member groups to take action in their communities.

Protection of natural areas: land trusts, conservation easements and nature reserves

The conservation and stewardship department is responsible for the acquisition and management of 20 nature reserves in Ontario. Advice is available to groups about protecting and preserving natural areas through landholding arrangements and participation in the Ontario Land Trust Alliance (OLTA).

Liability insurance

Ontario Nature has an excellent insurance package consisting of general liability coverage. Additional policies for Directors/Officers and landholdings are also available.

Fundraising incentives

Group members are given a special discount on bulk purchases of Ontario Nature merchandise. Selling our t-shirts, baseball caps, hasty notes and greeting cards will help raise money for your group.

Ontario Nature outings

Ontario Nature organizes “hands-on” experiences for naturalists through the Volunteer for Nature program. As part of a team, participants work on projects to restore or protect a natural area. Activities might include building hiking trails or boardwalks or perhaps documenting the flora/fauna in a designated area. Ontario Nature also sponsors both day and week long local and international outings operated via partnerships with professional outfitters.

ON NATURE magazine

Your group will receive complimentary copies of ON NATURE, our award winning quarterly magazine. In addition, you will receive Nature Network News, a publication that provides conservation updates that can be reproduced in your group’s newsletter. A discounted advertising rate in ON NATURE is also available.

Regional forums

Your group will be invited to attend regional meetings with neighbouring conservation groups. These gatherings promote a sharing of ideas amongst naturalists in your area who have similar objectives regarding protection of our natural world.

The Ontario Nature Network is a province-wide network of more than 140 groups that protects Ontario's nature and provides provincial leadership in parks and protected areas, land-use planning policies and conservation science. A strong commitment and concern for nature is shared by each group and demonstrated through their own activities.
