Benefits of Group MembershipEnvironmental advocacyOur staff can offer suggestions for helpful contacts and appropriate actions. Detailed information is available for both provincial and federal legislation dealing with issues such as land use policy, wetlands, parks and woodlot management. Information booklets are available to assist citizens and member groups to take action in their communities. Protection of natural areas: land trusts, conservation easements and nature reservesThe conservation and stewardship department is responsible for the acquisition and management of 20 nature reserves in Ontario. Advice is available to groups about protecting and preserving natural areas through landholding arrangements and participation in the Ontario Land Trust Alliance (OLTA). Liability insuranceOntario Nature has an excellent insurance package consisting of general liability coverage. Additional policies for Directors/Officers and landholdings are also available. Fundraising incentivesGroup members are given a special discount on bulk purchases of Ontario Nature merchandise. Selling our t-shirts, baseball caps, hasty notes and greeting cards will help raise money for your group. Ontario Nature outingsOntario Nature organizes “hands-on” experiences for naturalists through the Volunteer for Nature program. As part of a team, participants work on projects to restore or protect a natural area. Activities might include building hiking trails or boardwalks or perhaps documenting the flora/fauna in a designated area. Ontario Nature also sponsors both day and week long local and international outings operated via partnerships with professional outfitters. ON NATURE magazineYour group will receive complimentary copies of ON NATURE, our award winning quarterly magazine. In addition, you will receive Nature Network News, a publication that provides conservation updates that can be reproduced in your group’s newsletter. A discounted advertising rate in ON NATURE is also available. Regional forumsYour group will be invited to attend regional meetings with neighbouring conservation groups. These gatherings promote a sharing of ideas amongst naturalists in your area who have similar objectives regarding protection of our natural world.
