Ontario Nature - Federation of Ontario Naturalists

About Ontario Nature

Since it was established as the Federation of Ontario Naturalists in1931, Ontario Nature has been the voice for nature in Ontario.

From spearheading the creation of a wilderness area in Algonquin Park in 1934 to working tirelessly for the creation of the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan in 2001; publishing science-based research for scholars and education materials for young naturalists; advocating for Ontario’s original Endangered Species Act 1971 to pushing for its timely revision in 2007, Ontario Nature has been nature’s champion. Today Ontario Nature’s voice is sustained by a Nature Network of over 140 member organizations and 25,000 members and supporters.

Our Goals:

Protect and restore nature in Ontario.
Ontario Nature is the leading voice in the promotion and preservation of Ontario’s natural environment through the creation of parks and nature reserves, the responsible management of forests, and the protection of rare, threatened, and endangered species.

Connect people with nature.
We work to involve people in nature protection and to foster a conservation ethic by encouraging responsibility towards nature. We offer support to local conservation groups, distribute educational materials, and provide hands-on conservation and restoration teaching opportunities through our Volunteer for Nature program.

Advocate on behalf of nature.
We continue to be a strong presence at Queen’s Park, working with the government to create policies that protect wildlife and natural areas.

Educate the public on the importance of nature in all of our lives.
We provide opportunities for youth and adults in every region of the province to learn more about nature and become actively engaged in the conservation movement.

To combat the increasingly serious threats to our environment, and to promote a positive vision of environmental protection, we need your support more than ever.

With your help, we can continue to protect Ontario’s rich natural habitats and ensure a diversity of wildlife and healthy ecosystems for future generations.
