Why do we need nature?

David
Grade 8, Huron Heights Public School, Kincardine

Why do we need nature?
We should tell the legislature
to stop all the pollution,
that slows our evolution.

Nature gives us the clean water,
that we need; whether we’re human or otter.
Without water we would all fade,
no more creatures would ever be made.

Medicine helps cure us when we’re ill.
Where did we get that little, tiny pill?
Well, most medicines are made from plants,
if you have a disease, they will give you a second chance.

Plants are food for every living thing,
from creatures that bark to creatures that sting.
Vegetables give us the energy we need,
to play a game or grab a book to read.

Plants make the oxygen that we breathe.
It’s made by every last tree and every last leaf.
They give what we need and take what we can’t use,
but it’s their battle with logging they’re about to lose.

That’s the importance of a healthy environment,
more important than buying cars or paying rent.
So next time you need to get from Point A to Point B,
ride your bike and help save a tree.
