Since 1961, Ontario Nature has been protecting significant natural areas within its nature reserve system. With 21 properties totalling 2045 hectares (5054 acres), the system preserves some of the province's best remaining examples of imperilled and vulnerable habitats.

Many rare and endangered species are protected by Ontario Nature’s nature reserve system including the Blue Racer Snake, the Ramshead Lady-slipper and the Red-headed Woodpecker.

The Ontario Nature nature reserves are open to visitors - all that is required is that you stay marked trails to help preserve fragile habitats. For more information about visiting the reserves, please read our Permitted Activities Policy or contact the Ontario Nature office.
