More and more of the decisions about land-use planning in Ontario are now made at the municipal level because of provincial government "downloading" and budget cutbacks. This increased focus on local decision making means now is the time to establish more municipal environmental advisory committees (EACs).
There are over 447 municipalities in Ontario, but only 36 of them officially involve local citizens in environmental decisions through environmental advisory committees. Here’s information about EACs.
Success in community conservation involves learning from others who have travelled the same road before you. That’s why it’s very useful for EAC members across Ontario to stay in touch, to share experiences, provide information about new publications and upcoming events, and get questions about particular problems answered.
