These events offer Ontario Nature member groups the opportunity to promote their activities with other Nature Network member groups and a wider general audience.

Help spread the word! You are welcome to include any or all of these listings in your e-mails, websites and newsletters. If possible, please mention that you found them at www.ontarionature.org.

  Spring 2013 Photography Weekend
Great Lakes West: Bruce Peninsula Bird Observatory - Tobermory
Spring 2013 Photography Weekend

For a registration form, click here.
We have set aside the last weekend in May (Friday, May 24 to Sunday afternoon, May 26) for the Spring 2013 session. This is not the ‘Long Weekend’..
The weekend will not be following a specific “workshop” format, but will be more informal, with the emphasis being on getting outside and making photographs in a variety of settings. Some of these will be familiar, but there will be a couple of new locations. This approach is partly due to Rob Cotton not being able to join us this spring, even though he wanted to, due to other commitments. Rod Steinacher will again be your “guide” this year, and will continue to challenge you to examine your personal visual perceptions and photographic style.

The weekend will provide an excellent opportunity to spend lots of time with other like-minded enthusiasts; a sure fire way to “grow” your photography. Since making photographs is the emphasis, rather than focussing too much on the technical component, this weekend is open to photographers of all levels. Familiarity with the effects of aperture and shutter speed settings and depth of field is sufficient technical background for anyone attending. Enthusiasm is essential!! A digital camera is a must.

We will continue the Saturday evening slide show tradition, so bring a lap top computer to process you photographs is strongly recommended. Also, Rod will have a couple of optional “projects” for “goal oriented” folks in the group. Participants will be able to opt in and out of planned activities, as this will be very much “your” weekend.

BPBO has continued with renovations at Grebe Lodge, including redoing the kitchen, a new sliding door and deck out front, and new sliding doors out from the bedrooms. Even the furniture has been upgraded. Staying at Grebe Lodge should be an even more pleasant experience than in the past!

We will continue our “good eats” policy for weekends at Grebe Lodge. Requests for previous favourites will be entertained, and food allergies will, of course, be accommodated if you let us know. Food for the weekend includes a Friday evening snack, breakfast for both Saturday and Sunday, Saturday dinner, and a packed lunch to take with you as we head out to a photographic location on Sunday. You are welcomed (encouraged) to bring your own refreshments and personal snacks.

Bedding and a pillow are still up to the participant to bring. Although the long range forecast looks like sunshine and warm temperatures for the photo weekend, water proof footwear and a raincoat are always a good idea to pack.

Please find attached an registration form for the weekend (as well as a membership form, just in case). The cost for the weekend remains unchanged from last year; a good value these days! Please note that registrations forms are sent to Noreen, here at Cape Hurd, but membership forms are sent to our new post box address in Lions Head (at bottom of form).

If you have questions about the photo weekend, please get in touch with me by email (rstein@amtelecom.net), or call me at 519-596-2003 (after April 10).

It would be great to have some of you join us again this spring for a fun and challenging weekend! If you know of someone else who might be interested in attending, please forward this message to them.

Huron Fringe Birding Festival
May 24 - 27 & May 30 - June 2, 2013

Our festival takes its name from the migration corridor along the Bruce Peninsula. Morning activities are filled with guided hikes concentrating not only on birds but wildflowers, butterflies and insects, in and outside the park. Afternoons feature additional hikes, workshops on bird identification and nature photography, plus other natural interests.

Special events include a banquet with a special guest speaker. Evening highlights include illustrated programs featuring excellent presenters and night hikes.
